Departing from dynamic Dubai, a land of shiny skyscrapers, glam malls and an exceptional international food scene, we’ll sail across the Persian Gulf to Doha, the capital of Qatar and future host of the 2022 Football World Cup. Here you’ll be wowed by its modern skyline and can visit the exceptional Museum of Islamic Art and shop in a vast souq, where you can buy traditional textiles, spices and handicrafts.
Our next stop is Sir Bani Yas Island – an isle belonging to the United Arab Emirates, where Abu Dhabi’s royal family has two palaces. Aside from grand stately homes, though, the island has a most intriguing aspect: 13,000 animals roam its rocky interior, introduced by Sheikh Zayed, who turned the island into a nature reserve. The island’s population includes Arabian oryx, Indian blackbuck, giraffes and cheetah.
Sailing back to the UAE’s mainland, we’ll make a stop in Abu Dhabi. Visit the city’s Grand Mosque, a strikingly white Arabic building that’s home to the world’s largest hand-woven carpet; and don’t miss a visit to the Louvre – the Middle Eastern outpost of France’s most famous gallery. Thrillseekers should head for Ferrari World, home to the fastest rollercoaster in the world.
