We embark in Palma, the Balearic Islands’ compact culture-rich capital before sailing to the Catalonian fishing village of Palamos. Here, you can enjoy the buzz of a busy town, dine on tapas and wander the jumble of streets, or head out to one of the Costa Brava’s many beaches. There are also a handful of hamlets nearby where you can embrace traditional life on the Spanish coast.

Many towns along France’s south coast steal the limelight, while others, like the pretty 17th-Century maritime city of Séte, fly under the radar. Spend some time walking around the gridded streets of the Old Port and along the banks of the country-crossing Canal du Midi. A couple of hundred miles to the east is Cassis, a town famed for its winery-scattered landscapes and jaw-dropping coves. With only 7 cruise calls per year, don’t miss exploring this coastline from the water.

We’ll then set sail for Mahón, Menorca, the most easterly island in the Balearics. This little slice of paradise is quieter than Mallorca, but is just as beautiful with its white-washed towns and villages, rugged coves and bays and sun-kissed beaches. The final leg takes us across the Menorca Channel, back to Palma.
