A little north of Auckland begins the beautiful Bay of Islands. Some of the 144 isles here come draped in subtropical rainforest; others are more rugged, such as pointy Motukokako and its natural ‘Hole in the Rock’ tunnel. Penguins, dolphins and whales are commonly spied in this area.

Continuing up North Island’s eastern flank, just like HMS Endeavour did in 1769, we’ll pass bays named by Captain Cook and sail around the northerly tip of Cape Reinga. Look for Reinga’s red, 800-year-old pohutukawa tree, off whose gnarled branches the spirits of deceased Maori are believed to leap, bound for their ancestral homeland of Hawaiki.

We’re then bound for Australia on the Tasman Sea, giving you the chance to totally relax on the three-day crossing and test out Golden Horizon’s spa and swimming pool. It’s also a great chance to delve into the rich activities we have lined-up, ranging from talks focused on maritime history, astronomy or geography to wine-tasting evenings and movie nights. Arriving in Sydney, you’ll see that world-famous skyline – the iconic Harbour Bridge and jaw-dropping Opera House – appear into view. Spend time exploring the city’s botanical gardens, Bondi Beach, celebrity- chef restaurants and the Sydney Tower’s 250-metre-high observation deck awaiting just inland .

We’re then bound for Australia on the Tasman Sea, giving you the chance to totally relax on the threeday crossing and test out Golden Horizon’s spa and swimming pool.
